Ghost CFS Getting started guide

Who should use this guide?

This is intended for developers or IT administrators who want to set up the Ghost Cloud File System. Note that purchasing and setting-up are done together - in order to follow this guide you will need a valid credit card or access to an Amazon.com account which already has a credit card. If necessary the IT administrator and purchasing manager should go through this guide together.

Background reading

Before getting started it may help to have some familiarity with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and in particular with Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Simple Storage Service (S3) and Simple Database (SimpleDB) services and with DevPay. You should be familiar with the concept of an Amazon Machine Image (AMI).

What is CFS

Ghost Cloud File System (CFS) is a mature scalable file system that runs entirely on AWS infrastructure. File contents are stored in S3. File metadata and folder structures are stored in SimpleDB. You purchase Ghost CFS via Amazon DevPay.

Therefore in order to run CFS you will need an AWS account, you will need to start an instance of GhostCloudFS AMI and run it on at least one EC2 server and configure that server to talk to S3.
